March - April  2024 Announcements

First of all, I want to say how much I appreciate our Ladies of Holy Spirit Orthodox Church. Every time I ask for your help you amaze me with the outpouring of your love!! 🥰 You are an awesome group to work with!! ❤️

As Christian women, our work must continue in prayer and helping others when we can. The City Mission needs our donations of gently used, or new towels and washcloths for the residents, please bring your donations and place them in the tub in the church hallway.

The month of March will be busy for us, as it is the Orthodox Women's Month, our Ladies will be the Epistle Readers, ushers, and will be passing the offering plates during Sunday's Liturgy for the month of March.
  • Presanctified begins on March 20. We will have a potluck after the services at our church on March 20, March 27, April 10, and April 24. We will have our presanctified services at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on 11th St. in Huntington, WV, on April 3 and April 17. This schedule will be on our church website, holyspiritwv.org. - This isn’t just the ladies, but for everyone to participate, if possible.
  • Our April monthly meeting date is cancelled due to Great Lent.
  • We will not have a May monthly meeting due to the Holy Pascha being on May 5, 2024.
  • June monthly meeting will be June 2, after coffee hour in our social hall.
  • Check back here for future announcements.

Do not forget how vital the Ladies' role is in our church!

  1. The Ladies oversee events, such as the Bishop's visits, ensuing the decorations, refreshments, and food is furnished.
  2. Our ladies decorate the church with beautiful flowers during various feast days, Christmas, Holy Week and Pascha.
  3. We help those in need by collecting donations to the Cridlin Pantry, City Mission, Salvation Army and others.
  4. Our Ministries of Compassion works with the Information and Referral Department at the Cabell County Public Library.
We are now looking for volunteers for May coffee hours, which are available. Please be aware that our Lenten fast begins March 11 ending on May 4. The church only expects you to do as much as you are able, we invite you to team up with others in groups of two, three, or more. The coffee hour sign-up sheet is located on the usher's stand in our church narthex, if you are unsure of how to find it, please ask anyone of our church family. Coffee hour is a perfect time to welcome our visitors and make new friends!

An Important Fact Here - There may be dates that a church member will want for memorials or other occasions. If that happens and someone is already signed up, we ask those members to arrange those dates between themselves.

If you can’t host the coffee hour alone, please team up with another person(s) to help you. Another idea is to pick up one of the following items: a bag of cookies, a quart of milk (or non-dairy creamer for fast days), tea, and/or juice. Please put a note on the item that it is for coffee hour, and let Mary Ann,  Andrea Thabit, or myself know.

Andrea Thabit or Mary Ann usually makes the first couple of pots of coffee for you, so hosting coffee hour shouldn’t be a significant event (unless you desire). There should be plenty of cookies/donuts, coffee, and juice for 40-50 people.

The purpose of our group is to support Orthodox women through Christian love, charity, and fellowship. We encourage you to frequently visit this page to stay informed of the Ladies' events at the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church in Huntington, WV. Our Ladies Group is part of the Antiochian Women of the East Chapter of North America, which celebrated its fifty years of service in 2023.
